Life By Design Podcast
Like it or not, every year this time comes.

Summer is ending and the fall is moving in fast...it means that school is on the way. In some parts of the world, you're kids are already in school.

Either way, the start of the school year is an interesting time for everybody. There are new dynamics needing to be dealt with, new relationships, the ending of some relationships, studying, stress, growth, and everything in between.

How can you ensure that your child and your whole family adapt to the coming school year in the best way possible?

What can you do to increase the likelihood that your child and family successfully meet the challenges of future life at school (and beyond) to the best of your ability...with the least amount of harm?

The principle at play is adaptability.

There is no question your child and your family will be under stress; the real concern is can you adapt to that stress or is it going to harm you and your child?

To be honest, we don't know the answer because every situation is different. However, we can help put your child and your family in the best possible position to handle all the stress.

The purpose of this podcast is simple: we are going to talk about the three things you can do to make sure that (above all else) your child and your family are ready to grow and to become better this school year.

What we cover:
  • Why grades are not the most important metric. You might not agree, and that's okay, but the world is shifting and there is something much more important that you can teach your child other than getting good grades.
  • The one thing that every child needs more of during the school year and how to get it.
  • How to help decrease stress and anxiety in your child without having a lengthy conversation about it (which they will probably not want to pay attention to).

Finally, Some good news today.

In Australia researchers have uncovered a technique to help people overcome peanut allergies to the point where they can tolerate peanuts, and peanut products, for up to four years!

More interestingly, the breakthrough came with use of probiotics.

Why is this interesting?

What the article doesn't mention is that prior to this time the rapid expansion of peanut allergies, and other food allergies, has been in some significant part, thought to be genetic in nature.

The underlying idea and one that we don't gloss over, is that by adding a requirement, in this case gut bacteria, there was a completely altered immunological response to a food. A food that in certain sad circumstances can be deadly.

Peanut allergies among children, which are now commonplace, seemed to hardly exist even a few decades ago.

How can that be? How can a problem that is "genetic", such as peanut allergies have been claimed to be, grow exponentially over the last 20 to 30 years.

We're not trying to be cynical, in fact we're thrilled at how many lives this will save. However, we can't ignore the facts and miss the bigger picture.

The purpose of this episode is to celebrate a wonderful life-saving achievement and help you understand how you can take the same knowledge and make your life even better.

What we covered:
  • How your immune system works and why that's important.
  • How potential food allergies develop in the first place.
  • What you can do to create a bulletproof immune system.
  • Why probiotics (and other similar action steps) are much bigger than only a cure for peanut allergies.

Are you in a rough spot?

You've been working hard, going to the gym, eating well, yet things just don't seem to be progressing?

Worse, maybe they've gone in the wrong direction and you're noticing that your scale is creeping up and the clothes are starting to fit tighter?

How can this be? What gives? Most importantly, what should you do about it?

The purpose of this episode is to give you a dietary check-in when everything seems to be going in the wrong direction.

What we covered:
  • Give your head a shake. Most often, and in our experience, your diet falls apart not because of a lack of information but a weak mental game. You're under more stress, you're more social and that means there is more chance you'll get off track. Whatever the reason, always start with what is happening between your ears.
  • Are you doing the right things? It's possible that sometimes you've picked a strategy that does not give you the results that you were hoping for. That's OK, it happens to everyone, but how do you know it's the wrong strategy vs. you just haven't done it long enough? We'll answer that.
  • Have you done it long enough? We all know that diet and exercise work, but it's impossible to think you'd lose 50 pounds after only changing your diet for a month. Things always take longer than we think. Here is a great way to know when you haven't done things long enough.
  • Are you guessing vs. testing? Quick...what did you eat last week on the same day? Do you remember? Of course you don't, nobody does. If you do remember, you have no idea what your portions were. The point here is to start documenting everything you eat and drink...this way there is no fooling yourself.

This was an interesting week.

On more than one occasion, I was asked the same question many different ways...

1) Why isn't this getting any better?
2) How long until I start to feel better?
3) Is chiropractic working because I don't feel better?
4) Should I keep coming to see you because I don't feel any better?
5) What else do I need to do so I can feel better?
6) I was feeling better, and now I'm back to the beginning, how can I feel better?

These are very honest and legitimate questions.

I understand that you're not feeling well or that you might be injured. However, the healing process and ultimately fixing the problem follows a certain, very specific path, with all the parts laid out in a way that your body can't afford skip over a certain section.

Your body can heal quickly, but it must follow a certain order.

On today's podcast, I cover how you can best help your body recover fully and completely from sickness or injury.

What we covered:
  • Could it be that we are looking at the human body in reverse when it comes to fixing problems? Is there another way that we could be looking at it? We think there is. Learn what that way is, how it applies to you, and what you can do about it.
  • Why, in health, one thing is rarely ever the cause of your problem. I wish it were that simple, but it's not. Your health, injury, disease, symptoms are more often than not caused by many different factors, ALL of which you need to solve if you're going to be successful in getting better.
  • How to look at an injury properly and how to start the process, so that when you fix the problem, you have the best chance of never having that problem again.
